Homeopathic medicines can be used in all women’s health conditions including PMS and other menstrual issues, breast feeding, perimenopause and menopause.

Pre Menstrual Syndrome (PMS)

The most common homeopathic medicines for PMS are:

Lachesis – Severe PMS; immediate relief from PMS symptoms when bleeding starts. Can`t tolerate tight clothing around neck like Turtle neck t-shirts or a tie, etc. Sensation of a lump in the throat. Left-sided headache. Hot flashes with redness of the face. Very talkative, can be jealous and possessive. Often used in women with PMS between 40 and 50.

Pulsatilla – Mood swings before periods, weeps easily. An aversion to being alone, needs consolation. Late and scanty periods. Intermittent menstrual flow that stops at night. Often used in girls and young women.

Natrum muriaticum – A craving for salty foods; weight gain before periods due to water retention; PMS with headaches (worse by sun), herpes or acne. Reserved, sad, wants to be alone, aversion to consolation.

Folliculinum – PMS with bloating, swollen, painful breasts and headache or migraine. Menstrual cycle is shorter than 28 days; heavy flow.

Lac caninum – Headache or migraine with pain alternating sides; tender and swollen breasts. Sore throat that starts and ends with menstruation. Early periods with heavy flow. Irritable, absent-minded.

Sepia – Heaviness in lower abdomen. Low sexual drive. Chronic constipation, hemorrhoids, recurrent yeast infections and urinary tract infections. Herpes or acne flare-ups before periods(Natrum muriaticum). Feels estranged from family, indifferent, irritability. Fatigue after periods.

Painful Menstruation (Dysmenorrhoea)

Causes of Dysmenorrhoea are:

  • uterine fibroids
  • ovarian cysts
  • cervical stenosis
  • endometriosis
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease

Belladonna – intense throbbing pain with sudden onset, cramps get worse from touch or jolts.

Colocynthis – intolerable cramps; the woman is restless and bent over. Applying pressure on the abdomen or heat relieve the pain. Painful periods are often triggered by anger or suppressed indignation.

Magnesia phosphorica – cramps relieved by pressure or warmth; right side abdominal pain is more common. Is more effective when dissolved in warm water and sipped in small quantity.

Chamomilla – the woman can`t stand any pain and gets irritable and angry when in pain; passive movement, such as riding in a car or rocking her body alleviate pain.

Cimicifuga – pain is proportional to the flow – the more they bleed, the stronger the pain; stiffness of neck and shoulders.

Veratrum album – severe menstrual cramps accompanied by nausea, vomiting and sweating; heavy flow; tired and chilly woman.

Perimenopause

Lachesis – A woman who is always hot, cannot stand any pressure or constriction, can`t tolerate turtle necks, necklaces, bras. Very talkative, sometimes suspicious, jealous or she may have an alcohol craving in perimenopause. Palpitations, high blood pressure, intensive hot flashes with purple face and neck, left-sided throbbing headache. Severe PMS relieved immediately by periods` onset.

Sepia – A slender woman who feels worn-out and irritable since morning, chilly. Hot flashes from abdomen upwards to the face with profuse sweating and pale face. Heaviness in the pelvic area. Heavy periods in perimenopause followed by weakness.Tendency to ptosis of genital, digestive or urinary organs. Estranged from family, lack of sex drive, loss of interest in daily life. Physical exercises make them feel emotionally and physically better.

Graphites – Tendency to early menopause in a chilly, pale and sluggish woman. Weight gain in menopause often related to thyroid hypofunction. Graphites improves thyroid function. Severe constipation, hemorrhoids, skin eruptions with thickness of the skin and oozing cracks.

Thuja – Weight gain around the abdomen, water retention and cellulitis. Tendency to oily skin, warts, polyps, condylomata, fibroids or cysts. A medical history of long-term treatment with conventional drugs or repetitive vaccinations. Anxious, worried about her health, fear of getting cancer.
